Thought of The Day (Blog)

Understand how thought frames your reality. Did you notice what you were thinking when you read the title of the TOTD? Were you skeptical or resistant? Perhaps you experienced a quickening or sense of alignment. Did you notice how you felt reading the title? Based on your initial thoughts, you either continued reading to the end or decided this wasn't what you were looking for. What you may not have noticed is how quickly you acted, influenced by several factors, but primarily by the way you view the world or how you frame your reality. Reality is a big word, like broadcasting, and it will have as many meanings as there are people who experience it. There are structures and societal rules people are given to live by, but these should not be confused with the person's reality or the way they frame their worldview and live within it. For instance, if you were asked to describe your view of the world, you would begin by sharing your thoughts, which may or may not be based on experience. Your thoughts will, in most cases, be completely different from those of another. Based on your way of thinking (framework), you will take action consistently with the way you think and feel about matters important to your life. When desired goals, personal limitations, fears of loss, painful memories, or traumas are involved, the thoughts that frame our reality take on greater intensity. This is where the power of thought exerts a significant influence on our lives. Let’s take thoughts of personal limitations or challenges to self-worth as an example. The seed thought (I am not ______ enough) to achieve or accomplish some goal. If this thought passes through your mind or consciousness only once in a great while, it will have little, if any, impact on your life. If this thought of limitation is on your mind constantly throughout the day, weeks, or years, it will create conditions to reflect the thinking or consciousness that produced it. In other words, prolonged thoughts of limitation produce fears of loss, which in turn produce feelings of sadness, depression, and anxiety. If the thoughts of personal limitations are not effectively addressed, they begin to impact the individual much more acutely, particularly in the area of relationships. Thought plus feeling equals behavior or action (T + F=B or A). I did not invent the formula; instead, it emerged through my personal observations on the nature of thought and its relationship to feeling and behavior or action. Whether a person is aware of it or not, every thought impulse will be associated with some sense, which in turn inspires action. The person who thinks they are not good enough will often feel a sense of sadness and tend to act not from confidence or self-assurance, but through need and a desire to be elevated by others in some way. The behavior is the opposite of that of a person who has an intact sense of self and what they are capable of. Both thought forms or frameworks shape the reality of both individuals. The difference is in the outcome. Since growth and development occur throughout our lifetime, it is reasonable to accept continued growth as necessary and beneficial. With this in mind, we embrace change as the means to achieve or experience the joy of life at whatever level the person chooses. However, the choice will always involve the willingness to change the framework that forms their lives. The hurt from past relationships is not sufficient to burden the current relationship. How we were raised as children is not an excuse for not accepting that our children desire a life different from ours. A pattern of saying hurtful things followed by an apology does not require partners or children to receive it. If you want to change your thinking, feelings, and behavioral patterns, it can be done through support, practice, and consistency. A deep desire to change is the starting point. This is not a lonely journey by any means, but one that requires you to look inward or explore your inner self and motivations. You know where you are now. The next step is change, and change leads to fulfillment at whatever level is important to you. Decide and take the next step at Coaches Korner. I look forward to meeting you.
